The news media or news industry are forms of mass media that focus on delivering news to the general public or target audiences public. News media is found in print media (newspapers & news magazines), broadcast news (radio and television), and online (online news media sites, news blogs, etc.).

Press is the collective designation of media vehicles that carry out journalism and other functions of informative communication. The term press comes from the printing press of Johannes Gutenberg in the sixteenth century and which, from the eighteenth century, was used to print newspapers. From the middle of the 20th century, newspapers began to broadcast (radio news and television news) and with the advent of the internet, turned online.

By covering news, politics, weather, sports, entertainment, and vital events, the news media shapes the dominant cultural, social, and political picture of societies. Beyond the media networks, independent and local news sources, as well as the general public through citizen journalism and blogging, help expose and make available information.

Due to the rise of social media, entertainment values have encroached upon news as media brands have had to compete with the explosion in sources of information.
