Hearst, formally known as Hearst Communications, is an American mass media and business information conglomerate with leading global, diversified media, information and services companies, in more than 360 businesses based in New York City.

Hearst owns newspapers, magazines, television channels, and television stations, including the San Francisco Chronicle, the Houston Chronicle, Cosmopolitan, and Esquire. It owns 50% of the A&E Networks cable network group and 20% of the sports cable network group ESPN, both in partnership with The Walt Disney Company.

Hearst Communications is based in the Hearst Tower in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The company was founded by William Randolph Hearst as an owner of newspapers, and the Hearst family remains involved in its ownership and management.

Its major interests include ownership in:

– Cable television networks such as A&E, HISTORY, Lifetime and ESPN

– Global financial services leader Fitch Group

– Hearst Health, a group of medical information and services businesses

– Transportation assets including CAMP Systems International, a major provider of software-as-a-service solutions for managing maintenance of jets and helicopters

– 32 television stations such as WCVB-TV in Boston and KCRA-TV in Sacramento, Calif., which reach a combined 19 percent of U.S. viewers

– Newspapers such as the Houston Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle and Albany Times Union

– More than 300 magazines around the world including Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Men’s Health and Car and Driver

– Digital services businesses such as iCrossing and KUBRA

– Investments in emerging digital entertainment companies such as Complex Networks. 1

As of 2019, William Randolph Hearst III serves as Chairman, Frank A. Bennack Jr. is Executive Vice Chairman, and Steve Swartz is CEO.
