Amazon

Amazon was incorporated in 1994 in the Bellevue, Washington garage of founder, Jeff Bezos. In 1995, Amazon sold its first book and by the end of July orders was shipping to all 50 U.S. states and 45 countries. The following year, the Amazon Associates Program launched which as the first online affiliate program of its kind. Amazon continued to expand business and markets over the next few years, with the 2003 introduction of Super Saver Shipping and the 2005 creation of Amazon Prime. By 2015, Amazon made one-hour delivery a reality in over 25 cities across America, Europe, and Japan.

Amazon continued its expansion in its early years with the acquisition of Joyo.com (2004), the largest retailer of books, music, and games in China and Zappos.com, the leader in online apparel and footwear sales, in 2009. In addition to its acquisitions of other retail companies, Amazon expanded its markets with innovation. In 2007, they introduced the Kindle, the revolutionary wireless e-reader and, in 2008, they introduced Video on Demand, with movies and TV shows now available for rental or purchase online. In 2009 the Kindle Fire, Amazon’s multimedia tablet, was launched. In 2012, Amazon acquired Kiva Systems, Inc. with expectations of integrating robots into the Amazon fulfillment model.

In 2014, Amazon Studios became the first digital streaming service to win two Golden Globe awards, for the series Transparent. 1
