Advance Publications, Inc., perhaps best known as the parent company of Conde Nast, which owns 18 publications, including the New Yorker, Wired, and Vogue. The company is owned by the descendants of S.I. Newhouse Sr., Donald Newhouse and S.I. Newhouse Jr. and is named after the Staten Island Advance, the first newspaper owned by the Newhouse family, in which Sam Newhouse bought a controlling interest in 1922.
The Newhouse family also funds the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University, one of the most renowned journalism schools in the country.
