Steven Becerra

Steven Becerra has always enjoyed combining my two careers in music and engineering, and is am developing software that helps marching bands learn their drill more efficiently using drones and tracking algorithms.

He started his professional career as a musician and educator in multiple school districts in Houston and Austin, TX. From teaching music lessons to running rehearsals and masterclasses, urged my students to practice perfection. Using lessons learned from the dedication and persistence he used to become a successful performer, Becerra decided to broaden my knowledge of the world by pursing a more technical expertise. In my electrical engineering career, he naturally progressed into leadership roles by bringing innovative ideas to the Dell EMC server development process. Because furthering education is such a vital part of his personality and seeing the power of data, he entered into the Data Science Immersive at Galvanize.

After the Data Science Immersive, he started BX5 Labs merging two passions: music and engineering. BX5 Labs aims to help performers and athletes better their abilities to previously unrealized levels using video and data analytics.

Outside of BX5 Labs, he remains a data engineer with Civitas Learning to help colleges and universities see and use their data in meaningful ways in order to help one million more students graduate each year.

The use of data is lacking in the marching arts, and data through video and audio techniques will move the activity forward. He’s centering his efforts in the Texas high school band market, because of the competitiveness of marching competitions. For example in one of the largest competitions in Texas, over 40 high school bands compete against each other with some band spending over 100K to develop their marching show. To do this, in 2019, he joined MediaTech Ventures first MediaTech incubator cohort in Collective.
