Podcasting

A podcast is digital audio file made available on the internet for use through a computer or mobile device. Podcasts are typically available as a series, through new installments available through automatic delivery to subscribers.

The word was coined by Ben Hammersley following the emergence of the iPod. Recorded files distributed in audio format; though the term has been increasingly applied to video formats associated with the same style of content production.

In 2019, Venture Capital firm a16z published a report noting that Americans listening weekly to podcasts grew from 7% in 2013 to 22% in 2019. 65% of monthly podcast listeners have been listening for less than 3 years.1
