Gary Beer has led the expansion of two iconic brands- Sundance and the Smithsonian. As founding CEO of Robert Redford's Sundance Group, Gary managed the Sundance Film Festival from inception, launched the Sundance Channel and Sundance Catalog. At Smithsonian, managed all revenue producing enterprises, including Museum stores and e-commerce ( 20 million annual visitors) and Smithsonian Magazine ( 2 million subscribers), and led the formation of the Smithsonian Documentary Channel, now in over 60 million homes.
Since leaving Smithsonian , Gary has been consulting to early stage consumer and entertainment ventures and private equity groups, in addition to launching a consumer Internet business. He splits his time between LA and Jamestown, RI.
